dental trip
There is no school today so I fixed an appointment with the dentist. He “waited” more than 2 years for me…so when I went… he thought I’m in NS. But really, with my hairstyle, I dun think any CSM or RSM would let me off without dishing out extra duties…My naturally reaction when it hurt as dr yeo was clearing the accumulated tartar, I pinched my thumb. WHY!? I wondered. So I was distracted by thinking…and I think the reason is that human would divert pain…or caused pain- of some intensity, hopefully, that the neurons would inform the brain that there is another pain!
That self-incurred pain is self-controlled. I pinched a lil when the pain in my mouth was low and when the uncontrollable (def: pain which I cannot control) increase, I pinched myself with more pain- hoping to desensitize myself from the pain that came first.
Is that silly?
I see parallel between the above scenario and self-cut by people, esp teens.
When teens are met with external blows which cause them pain (emotional, physical, mental) and are voiced out or stopped, some would turn to self-inflicted cutting.
The more troubled or messy their ‘uncontrollable’ and harsh incident/ experience/ environment is, the more they – frequency, intensity.
External hurt : dentist clearing tartar
Self cut : pinching
You may hear news of friends’ friend(s) cutting themselves. What would you do?
Some scars are visible. Would these be a silent call for help? While some are hidden-in the closet sort…they cut, slit, sliced in their inner thighs, chest areas… those I think they are not ready for medical attention and above all, they are traumatized. You must understand trauma is non-quantifiable. What is traumatic for u might not be traumatic for me. IF it is, the level of trauma would probably differ.
And I continued to think… in that case, if I were to disagree with the bhv of those who self cut…then wouldn’t I be slapping myself on my cheek? Why would I divert my attention to another pain which I cause? Avoidance, escapism? Arh… (or is my logic weird?)
And then, dr yeo interrupted…(he told me about what is happening to my teeth…which I am not sharing here)
Hee… this dental trip cost a good $56 inclusive of my $6 taxi fare…haha…
Is it because it is less wrong for me to do what I did and more wrong to those who self cut? If ur answer is yes…then stealing a pencil from the book store is fine…as it is less of a mistake compared to ttdurai. Who sets the benchmark then? There ought to be benchmarker yea? If not who dished out these ‘moral’ rules? Who is this Person?
There is an on-going debate at Parliament now. The reporters wrote that the last time there was such debate was whether Singapore should proceed with the IRs… and this is about whether or not 377A in the Penal Code should be repealed. And one of the arguments to repeal 377A is that 377 is repealed.
What 377A? I dunno about it until now. In lay man terms, as I have understood, Section 377 is the law that states the oral and anal sex is illegal (criminalized) between a man and a woman. 377 A states that oral and anal sex is illegal between a man and another man.

From yesterday, there are changes made to the fines and jail terms in Singapore and Section 377 was repealed- which means anal and oral sex is no longer a crime, whereas 377A is still. Then dear NMP S presented a voice of an individual and hoping that 377A would be repealed as well. One of the argument is that if we allow that for man and woman, then why shouldn’t it be or man and man. There’s no harm done.
Personally, I am against it being repealed.
It’s an issue of morality and safety and security of my country.
