PTO

Last night i went to Esplanade to watch the Phantom of the Opera.

The last time it came was more than a decade ago when i was in primary school.

I managed to get hold of the score- Phantom of the Opera. I sang while i played on the piano. I was Christine and Phantom.

As i grow up, i began to like Raoul more than Phantom. Vicompte Raoul de Chagny's range was more comfortable for me. His love for Christine in "All I ask of You" has particularly drawn me to his character and repetoire more than Phantom's. Some sort of special connection with "All i ask of you"...since i was in J1...back in 2001.

There were disappointment nonetheless throughout the musical. 4times i think...and twice occured at notes prior to prima donna. the climax not there, once at the end when Raoul was at the dungeon with Christine and Phantom. Given that phantom's part is very very tedious, he deserves the hugh(est) - pardon me applause.

and as i was watching, i realised it was my (late) childhood dream come true...thanks dee...

today is the first world social work day!!!

Social Workers from every part of the world celebrate the first ever World Social Work Day on March 27th 2007.

Social Work: Making a World of Difference is the theme, highlighting that social workers help people to make positive changes in their lives.

The theme mirrors the IFSW 50th jubilee logo.

Social workers are involved with some of the most distressed and vulnerable people in our communities. They require not only compassion and dedication to help those in need but also intellectual and analytical skills and personal commitment. These are demanding qualities in special people.

Social work practice is always challenging and can be dangerous. In many situations the safety of social workers is at risk and there have been recent examples of social workers suffering serious injury and death.

Social workers recognise that the voice of vulnerable and marginalised individuals and groups (such as those living in poverty, people who are homeless, children and older people and people with physical or learning disabilities) is often not heard.

Social workers aim to enable people to voice their concerns and to work jointly with service users to improve national and international social policies. Social workers respond not only to individual needs, but also larger social issues such as poverty, domestic violence, homelessness and health care. Social work aims to promote human rights and social justice.

talk and after thought

i attended a panel discussion by 1 ex-nmp: dr ngiam tee liang, 1 ex-mp: dr vasoo and 1 nmp: dr mehta...
they were sharing their views on bugdet 07.

suddenly i felt i should hone my econs knowledge and make some differences in the lives of pple.
garner the support of people and resonant the woes of the citizens of the poorer strata...

sigh... hmm... i know every practicum has its value...i just hope that God will land me onto one that allows me to glorify and magnify Him...

i tend not to venture into prisons or medical...though they pay higher.
i think of children, family and youth...
listening to troubles of teens... esp relational ones.

where will my path lead me to?????
what type of social worker will i be? a voice for the poor, injustice? a channel of blessing, used by God?

oh.. lordie lordie

dog and bird issue

as i was running to the condominum of my tuition kid ( i was late!), i saw a lady walking her two canines. they looked abit wolfy. that wasn't my automatic thought, the first thing that came into my mind was that, dogs and birds are good friends...
seriously, i'm amused with myself.

even right now, i do think dogs and birds are really good frens... as in dog dun ka jiao (disturb) birds...WHY?

when i was a little boy... i watched cartoon. obviously, i wouldn't miss this cat...
chasing this bird...

and then u have a bulldog always around to save the bird... scare the cat...
and we have the dog and the bird cheering and smiling...
that explains why i think dog and birds dun fight..

more obs on men

I am waiting for chek at tb station. I see a small group of males watching WWE!!!
Let’s talk about guy-bonding.
The age ranges from 13- late 40s…
Yes, they just stand in front in the VCD shop and watched a SHAWN MICHAEL wrestling match.

They dun talk to each other. But they have a common understanding. Who is the better wrestler, who should win… perhaps they are all stunned and amazed by their incredible flipping and falling techniques… Yes, and I just caught a man (40s) smiling as he listens to the live commentary from the 4 students (13-15, 1C, 2I)…

How do u get children OF DIFFERENT races to talk to each other?
ACTIVITIES… probably...how about talking?...nah, probably not to each other, but about something.

Another male student just stood and watched…. And his eyes are glued too…
WHY?

These are common scenes. U can see this at weekend when the EPL is in action. You can hear them shouting and cheering… as one…”GOALLLLL!!!!” or “ WAHHH PIANG!!!! Nv score….HENG ARH!!!”

Ok, more crowd rite now… and age range has increase from 13- to 60 yrs old. Males of various ethnic groups are enjoying their bonding. U realize, no words are exchanged…

NOW who can tell me what is attractive about wrestling??
I used to follow WWF when it was on SAT evening when I was a little boy.
I even thought of becoming one called “ THUNDERSTORM”… is there any theory that explains this behaviour.. I think so.

Reasons why they watch (specualated)
13-15: I want to be like them. Strong. Can throw pple around. Fight!!!!!! Cool!!! Absolute bad and good…
16-19: Watch lor… nothing to do…
(I realized there is no males from the 19-30 watching)
30-60: those were the days … I fought with my neighbour over a football…

i listen

A: YOU have an attitude problem!
B: Yes, and you have a PERSPECTIVE PROBLEM

A: WHen i am old, i am going to a place where the pace of life is slower.
B: WHen i am old, things around me would appear slower, as i think slower...

ok. i think the second wan isn't that witty.
rite...

i heard this on the bus.
someone said

singapore is expanding her land area -> proximity to the earthquake epicentres gets nearer over time -> would that explain why areas like suntec (central), toa payoh(north) felt the recent tremor?
singapore is building circle line -> digging deep into the land-> logically speaking, wouldn't that 'weaken the soil or its surroundings'?

singapore is intending to utilise more land space -> build downward like basement carpark and shopping centres -> wouldn't that make more holes on the underneath singapore, a small country?-> will there be an underground reservoir one day? (flood?)

singaore- do u think it's like a slice of cheese with holes?

some men dun grow up

Recently and i REALLY MEANT recently...on the train, i see many MEN (age >21) carrying this gadget
and keep on playing until 'dunno when'.
There are also boys who carry out this activity. but...aiyo..they are so boy-boy... even the men.

They stand up and play, with eyes glued to it or sit down and play, with eyes glued to it.
Scene A-> Male 1: hey! i want to play. Male 2: No!! 10 more mins!! Male1: Sighz...ok lo...

do boys grow up?
some, u give them balls...i mean footballs, they will be happily occupied; some, u give them internet connection or LAN...then they will be happily wired up.
